TSA Attends North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) Conference!

TSA staffer, Erin Thornton, was excited about the opportunity to attend this conference. She shares, "I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) 2018 conference a week ago. It was held here in St. Paul, MN and drew people from all over the county.

Attendees and presenters included professionals, foster parents, adoptive parents, kinship care givers and adoptees with many hailing from across the country.  NACAC’s conference was held over three days and had exceptional keynote speakers and hosted a robust variety of break out workshops to attend.  Specifically, I was able to learn more about transracial adoptions and fostering, workshops on honoring first families/bio-families role in children’s life and identity development, brain development and functioning in children who experience trauma, and foster care parent recruitment. The other component of trainings and attending conferences like NACAC for me as a professional, is that we are oriented to know there are incredible people in a variety of roles who are dedicated to doing meaningful work with children, families and with systems. It rejuvenates the spirit for learning and gives fresh, bright ideas to bring back and implement into practice."
