Mental Health Therapist for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program Southwest Region of Minnesota

Therapeutic Services Agency, Inc. (TSA) has been providing mental health expertise and evidenced based practices in the spirit of innovation and excellence since 1978. TSA added the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program 3 years ago to provide culturally affirmative and language specific services to address the mental health needs of children who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing. We are looking for a full-time mental health therapist who is proficient in ASL, has in-depth knowledge of Deaf culture, and an understanding of communication barriers, to join our staff. We currently provide these services to children and their families across Northern Minnesota and are now expanding our services to the Southwest Region of Minnesota.  

Responsibilities include providing an array of mental health services to our clients such as diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, individual therapy, family therapy, individual skills, and family skills.  This position is also responsible for promoting and marketing the program; and for providing presentations to community groups, at professional conferences, and to school staff about the benefits of culturally affirmative, language specific mental health services to children who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing.  This is an itinerant position and requires the therapist to live in the Southwest Region of Minnesota. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) 
  • Master’s Degree
  • Licensed Mental Health Professional or license eligible.
  • In-depth knowledge of Deaf culture

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive clinical diagnostic assessment, individual and family psychotherapy, and clinical management to address emotional, behavioral and mental health issues of child, adolescent and young adult program participants
  • Participate in case consultation and provide input to client’s treatment plan and direction
  • Complete all related clinical documentation for assigned clients in a professional and timely fashion
  • Willingness to be flexible in providing services to clients and their families in various community locations and in the client's home
  • Participate in regularly scheduled program staff meetings
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Education/Experience Required:

  • Master's Degree.
  • In-depth knowledge of Deaf culture, language deprivation and its effects, and communication barriers and accommodations for individuals who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing.
  • Must either be professionally licensed or license eligible in Minnesota as a LICSW, LP, LMFT, or LPCC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English and in ASL.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of individuals by using tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
  • 2 years of clinical practice serving children and adolescents with Emotional Disturbance and Severe Emotional Disturbance and their families.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work independently.
  • Working knowledge of various computer platforms including, word processing, spreadsheet, database entry, presentation software, and video conferencing.
  • Must have reliable transportation, hold a valid driver’s license, and maintain current auto insurance.

Education/Experience Preferred:

  • 2 years of experience in providing mental health services to children, adolescents and families
  • Experience working or interacting with individuals who are deaf
  • Experience with diverse populations
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care
  • Trained in a specific trauma treatment models (TF-CBT, EMDR, MAP)
  • Trained in working with early childhood mental health, DC 0-5 training
  • Trained in play therapy or willingness to work with young children

Licensed Mental Health Professional/Clinical Trainee - School Linked Mental Health Program Pine City, MN

Therapeutic Services Agency, Inc is hiring additional licensed mental health professionals or clinical trainees (Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, Psychology or related field) to work in our School Linked Mental Health program (SLMH). This is an opportunity to join an enthusiastic team of therapists providing mental health services in schools located in Chisago County or Pine County (employment placement will be made relative to staff member's home location, as possible).

Desired qualities include persons on professional licensure track or licensed, with positive interpersonal relationship skills, works well with other professionals in school setting, knowledge base and effective therapeutic readiness to provide individual, family, group therapy services. CTSS experience preferred, but not required, computer and organizational skills needed. We have positions available in Chisago County and Pine County (within commute from Minneapolis/St. Paul and suburbs or Western Wisconsin).

Desired qualities include persons on professional licensure track or licensed, with positive interpersonal relationship skills, works well with other professionals, knowledge base and effective therapeutic readiness to provide individual diagnostic assessment and therapy. CTSS experience preferred but not required, computer and organizational skills needed.

Mental Health Practitioner/Clinical Trainee - In-Home Family Based Services Pine City, MN

Therapeutic Services Agency, Inc is seeking additional Mental Health Practitioners (Bachelor degree, with experience under the supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Professional or enrolled in Master's program) to provide in-home skills training to children and families in the East Central MN area (Pine, Chisago, Isanti, Anoka Counties) and in the Twin Cities Metro area. Services are provided in families' homes and case assignments are made for locations within about 45-mile radius of staff's home. Candidate must have qualifications as a mental health provider in MN (Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family therapy or related field). Position involves evening and some day work, driving to families' homes and ability to work independently as well as part of a professional team. Compensation and benefits are competitive and agency is supportive.
